Upon getting the Air Wick Automatic Air Freshener Spray Kit to review, I was intrigued to see how this aerosol-free air freshener would work and whether it would indeed leave our house smelling amazingly fresh.

During the first few weeks of use, it has exceeded our expectations and proved to be a reliable addition to our family home. The fresh cotton scent is light and airy, which has created an inviting atmosphere as soon as you enter our hallway.

A Fresh Approach to Air Fresheners

Unlike traditional aerosol air fresheners, the Air Wick 24/7 Active Fresh Automatic Air Freshener claims to not only mask unpleasant smells, but neutralises them while releasing natural essential oils. We found that this was indeed the case, which resulted in not only our hallway having a subtle yet invigorating fresh cotton fragrance, but also the adjoining rooms.

Although it can be used in a bathroom, living room or kitchen, based on our experience to date, we found that it is better placed in larger rooms and hallways, with its sleek design and sturdy plastic construction making it a durable option for those areas which are most frequented in the family home.

We don’t have pets so can’t comment whether or not it neutralises dog or musty smells, but given our experience of the product thus far, we’d imagine it would do the job nicely.

The starter kit contains 1 Device, 1 Refill (228ml) and 2 AA Batteries. In terms of size, the device itself stands approximately 17cm (7 inches) tall and 8.5cm (3.25 inches) wide, with the refill fitted.

Customisable Fragrance Intensity

The device has 3 adjustable fragrance settings, which allows you to control the intensity of the fragrance, ensuring it’s never too overpowering. On the lowest setting, the product can last up to 70 days, offering a long-lasting solution for maintaining a pleasant aroma in your home.

In terms of time, the fragrance is emitted every 48 minutes on the minimum setting, every 18 minutes on the mid-setting, and every 9 minutes on the high setting.

There is also an instant action boost button at the top of the device, which provides an immediate burst of freshness whenever you need it when you press it down and wait up to 3 seconds for the device to spray.

It is worth mentioning that we found ourselves not using the manual boost button at all, as even at the lowest automatic setting, we found it provided more than sufficient strength of scent to maintains a consistent and pleasant cotton aroma.

We opted to switch the device off every night, as obviously the requirement to use it was pretty much non-existent, which meant that as the device is battery operated, it prolonged its use and of course the scent refill.

Talking of the scent refills, aside from the fresh cotton scent that we’ve been reviewing, you can also choose from Jasmine & Green Apple (also being promoted as Stacey Solomon Morning Meadow), Eucalyptus & Freesia, Raspberry & Lime and Vanilla & Honeysuckle.

Considerations for Placement

Another thing to consider is the placement of the automatic air freshener, as the packaging suggests that the device should be above eye level and at least 6 feet (1.83 metres) from the floor in order to maximise its effectiveness.

Thankfully there is a small hole cut-out of the back of the device to enable it be hung up on a wall, should you not wish to place it on top of some furniture or a shelf.

We decided to hang our device up in the hallway above the doors leading into our kitchen, which provided an ideal airy place for it to work its magic, whilst also satisfying the suggested placement guidelines and avoiding any potential residue on surfaces.

Value for Money

At the time of writing, the recommended retail price for the Air Wick 24/7 Active Fresh Automatic Air Freshener Spray Kit is £12.00, but is available to purchase from Amazon, Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and Savers for just £8.00, so it is worth shopping around.

As for the various 228ml refills, well they range in price from £5.00 at Amazon (or even cheaper with subscribe & save) to £7.00 at Asda and Tesco, depending on which scent you choose, so again we’d highly recommend you shop around.

Whilst the product and refills may sound a little pricey, we feel that considering the quality and longevity of the product, it offers excellent value for money.

Overall, we found the Air Wick Automatic Air Freshener a reliable and effective air freshener ideal for a busy home, where an effective air freshener is essential. For its price, it offers excellent value for money and is a worthwhile investment for those seeking to improve the ambiance of their home.
