Well the sun is shining brightly and it’s wonderfully warm, so for once we cannot complain about the weather at the start of July.
Although I tend to live in three quarter length trousers or maxi dresses during the warm weather, I have decided to let these athletic thighs and chubby knees have a bit of an airing in a pair of tailored or long line (just above the knee) shorts.
There are plenty of choices available from varying colours, styles and patterns, but some of my favourite shorts are the ones at Next.
I’ve picked my top three, two of which I would wear on the school run, picnic or everyday wear.
The first pair i’ve chosen are these easy wearing mid knee length indigo blue denim short.
They feature a slightly faded washed look with a stud button and zip fastening and sit comfortably just above the knee.
They are not too tight as they fit comfortably over my podgy knees, and the turn ups give them an added trendy twist to bring them bang up to date.
These are timeless summer classics that can be worn with a multitude of tops and sandal or shoes.
The second pair I’ve picked, are these multi floral print mint green linen blend shorts. A more relaxed fit with the same closures, but with a mock tie at the front to finish off.
Sitting a little higher up on my leg, with a more tailored feel to them, these shorts are a cooler option when the weather gets a bit too hot for denim.
Again they feature the on trend turn up cuffs on the base of the leg. These shorts can be dressed up a little bit smarter than the denim pair, just add a mid block heel sandal and shell top for a smarter day time outfit.
And finially my ultimate favourite, now I know they are going to be a little too smart for the school run, but these black and ecru floral textured bermuda shorts from Next monotone collection are simply stunning.
These shorts could be mixed and matched with a striking summer heeled sandal, a chiffon or plain lace top with some added bling for a great evening look, especially a lovely evening meal alfresco.
In my younger days, I’ve even worn a shorts suit to a wedding and with tailored shorts and skorts making a huge come back this summer, I can see the trend taking off again. (2nd time around!) 😉
So although I know my days of short legged and cropped shorts are way behind me, not due to my age, just my figure unfortunately.
I am now going to enjoy the fun of wearing shorts in a classier and more stylish style which will enhance my body shape and not expose some parts that need that little bit more cover up these days.
