Last week I decided to treat myself to some new mascara and eye shadow as both mine were runing out.
Off I toddled to Boots, as when it comes to make-up, I like to see the colours and brushes with my naked eye and not online.
Firstly, I needed a new mascara, I’ve always used Clinique, which I still love. Unfortunately, or not in this case, the Boots store I visited doesn’t stock Clinique and so I chose my other favourite make-up brand which is Maybelline, New York.
I’m a bit finicky when it comes to mascara as it all depends on the shape of the brush for me. I don’t mind if its a soft bristle brush or plastic bristles but I do have to use a curved brush. They just seem to work better on my short little lashes. I bought the Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara in intense black.
I do get slightly influenced by the packaging of items and there was no surprise that I chose the Limited Edition Rose Gold Packaging over the usual light gold packaging. No difference in the product, it just looks more feminine to me.
I love the feel of the soft plastic curved brush on my eye lashes which gives me a long lasting and dare I say it, a longer looking lash.
I’m also pleased at how long the mascara lasts on my lashes. I usually wear a waterproof mascara, but this Maybelline mascara isn’t waterproof and it sits on my lashes all day and doesn’t smear under my eyes as sometimes happens. I do have a tendency for watery eyes, which can be frustrating when wearing eye make up.
So this mascara really does live up to it’s name of Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara!
Onto the eye shadow and I was looking for a brown and nude duo set as mine was crumbling away to nothing. Whilst looking I came across Maybelline New York’s The Nudes eye shadow palette and couldn’t resist it. Not only did it consist of 12 varying shades of nude to dark charcoal brown, but it also had some glitter shades as well as matte. Perfect!
This palette of colours is ideal for day and nightwear. I love the fact that I can do some smoky grey eyes for the day and use a bit of gold sparkle for an evening. It was of course a bit more expensive than the duo pack but I’ve got a lot more choices of colours to use now. It was worth the extra £5.00.
I’ve only tried the matte shades so far, but they stay on well and only need a bit of touching up after a few hours. I’m chuffed that I opted for this The Nudes palette shades as the colours are what I usually wear, although I have noticed the Limited Edition & Exclusive Maybelline Soda Pop Eyeshadow Palette, which looks funky and fun with it’s eye popping eye shadow shades.
To add the cherry on the cake for my shopping trip, if I spent over £20 in Boots on make-up (which I did, but only just!) I was entitled to a free Beauty Edit box worth up to £40 of beauty gifts inside. What a happy Maybelline girl I was.
The Beauty Edit box consisted of a mixture of make up brands from Rimmel to L’Oreal. So definitely worth it.
The items included were:
Rimmel London 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish
Rimmel London Ultimate Kohl Kajal Eyeliner
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
Garnier Moisture Bomb Hydrating Face Sheet Mask
L’Oreal Paris Color Rich Lipstick
NYX Professional Makeup Lip Lingerie
Sleek Makeup Matte Me Lip Cream &
L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Filler Replumping Ampoules Sachet
This should keep me quiet for a bit. 🙂 I’m looking forward to trying the skin care pieces as well as experimenting with the new make up brands.
