As a family we have always enjoyed the outdoors and as our children are now 11 and 6yrs old I must admit it is a lot easier to go on more varied walks – from beach coastal paths to wonderful country parks and mountain walks.
We were very lucky over the Christmas holiday period to enjoy such walks as most of the time the weather was kind to us and stayed dry – albeit cold and crisp!
A while ago my husband and I decided that it was about time we invested in some proper walking shoes instead of wearing our running trainers or everyday shoes which were slowly getting ruined.
We had a look online and found a website for Regatta Outlet, knowing it was a reputable company specialising in outdoor wear, and having previously bought jackets/coats from them, we knew that what we would get was quality and comfort.
We were both lucky to find exactly what we were looking for and at over half price they were a bargain!
My husband chose the Nitrous XPT Trail Shoe for his big Size 12 feet, as they were sturdy yet lightweight.
They are made from hard wearing waterproof and breathable Isotex technology with plenty of ventilation and a compression moulded EVA midsole which provides a shock absorbing layer under foot.
Having worn them alot, he will happily tell you that they keep his feet cool and comfortable whatever the terrain.
As for me I went for the Lady Crossland low boot in grey with pink trim details throughout. These shoes have been walked up muddy hills and along sandy beaches, coastal paths and countryside castle walks and my awkward feet have remained comfortable, dry and cool throughout.
Although these shoes are sturdy and hard wearing they are also lightweight and comfortable. They are quite generous in width and the size 6 fitted perfectly, with enough room for me to wear my thermal socks when needed.
They even look fine on a fashion side of things as I wear mine with my straight leg or skinny jeans and my navy blue Blissful ii padded Regatta coat (that’s another blog post though) 🙂
The last walk included a climb up and down some muddy hills and woodland up to Dinefwr Castle in Llandeilo and I can honestly say that it felt like I was walking up there in my slippers but with plenty of grip. My feet remained dry and warm and although the shoes were filthy at the end of the walk they cleaned up really well on my return home.
We have been so impressed with our walking shoes that we have decided to invest in some for our children as they were slipping around quite a bit in their trainers.
As my 11 year old son’s feet are bigger than mine he will have to choose from the mens footwear, but my daughter is still in the junior sizes, so I will let you know how I get on and what we decide to get.
