I know kimono’s started trending last Summer, but I’ve noticed a huge variety and change of design in the kimono cardigan for the coming Spring/Summer season.
Looking through Monsoon’s collection of Kimonos is testament to the popularity of these pieces, as they bring a bold and lightweight touch to all outfits, from skirts, trousers and tops to dresses and jumpsuits.
I guess it depends on the ocassion as to what style of kimono you are looking to buy. Do you want an alternative cardigan to wear throughout the warmer days of the season, or are you searching for a special evening cover up?
You may even be on the look out for a gorgeous way to finish off your swimwear pieces and be a real beach or poolside babe, with a casual yet feminine throw over the shoulder piece.
Whatever your event there is something to suit everyones needs, and as the kimono is styled in that loose casual fit it will compliment all shapes and sizes.
For me personally I’m looking to buy my first kimono, so Im opting for an alternative look to my usual “cardigan thrown over the shoulder” look.
I enjoy wearing jeans and capri pants so I want something to jazz them up in a feminine and chic fashion.
I’ve narrowed my choice down to the following three, the Gardenia, Louisa and Hawaii print kimonos.
My favourite is the Gardenia print kimono. With it’s dark background, the oversized floral print really makes a statement.
I know I would wear this kimono over and over again, as it will easily mix and match with many items of clothing I already possess in my wardrobe.
I love the fact that the loose fitting batwing three quarter length sleeves flow gently over the elbow, and the dipped hemline curves beautifully around the derrieré.
Having recently bought some brightly coloured jeans (burnt orange, red and cobalt blue) the colours of the oriental style flowers on this kimono top will enhance them beautifully.
Similarily, the Louisa kimono cardigan is an open fronted, long line dipped hem piece that will look equally stunning in the Spring and Summer warmer months.
With it’s white background this floral and (my favourite) butterfly print will lighten up an outfit with that cool Summer breeze feeling.
The sleeves are shorter on this kimono, and the dipped rear hemline is much longer, so even popped on over a fitted tee or vest top and skinny fit jeans- I think you will be on to a real Summer winner.
I think if I was looking for a holiday wear kimono then this pretty Hawaii print piece would double up just as well for everyday beach wear and casual kimono, as it would simply popped on over a summer evening dress.
The subtleness of the pattern on the light background ensures that the kimono compliments what you are wearing and does not take it over.
The soft sweet fringe detail along the hemline just finishes off this piece beautifully, giving any outfit whether worn day or night and feminine look of Summer elegance.
So I am thinking happy thoughts and ignoring the rain and stormy wind outside and instead, dreaming of balmy hot summer days and nights, wearing one of my (soon to be purchased) kimonos.
Happy Shopping everyone! đŸ˜‰
